Sociology of Music in Brief

Sociology of music to learn about the relationship between the individual music listening. Some of the most important thing learned in the sociology of music for example is the relationship between the state of productive forces that affect production.

In the world of music, which is the productive forces is:
1. activities of writing and making music.
2. the work of artists / music that reproductive workers.
3. technology used in producing and distributing music.

Then what is the situation affecting the production is:
1. economic conditions and ideology which all terkaitkan music activities.
2. mentality and tastes of the listeners.

Theodore Adorno, a sociologist and a German-born musicologist, and asserted that a work is structured things objectively and has its own meaning, things that may invite analysis, and can be interpreted and perceived by different levels of accuracy. Referring to this statement, Adorno's ideal audience share to 7 groups based on the ability of listeners to hear each group.

The groups include:
1. Expert Listeners (listener expert), characteristics of the audience of this group is the ability to hear or listen to a whole structurally. This group has the ability to hear the formal elements of a musical piece. Able to listen to the order / the parts, to hear the momentum of the past, present, and future, and crystallized it into kontex meaning.
2. Good Listener (good listener), able to listen to the elements mentioned above, but does not have an awareness of technical and structural involvement of a work.
3. Cultural Listener (listener in a culture), to appreciate music as a cultural asset.
4. Emotional Listener (listener emotionally), not defined by objects that they listen to but the mental state that arises from the object being heard.
5. Resentment Listener (listener fanatic), very loyal to one particular type of music, so do not accept any form of distortion to the norms and rules of music.
6. Entertainment Listener (listener for entertainment), is the type of audience is the target industry, the music is considered as a "convenient distraction".
7. Anti - Musical, because the society consists of people who listen to music and what not, then Adorno classify them as a type of Anti - Musical.
